The History of SM Thompson Ltd
1950
Established
SM Thompson Ltd established in Middlesbrough then later at Port Clarence railway station by Stanley Moorhouse Thompson.
1955
Premise Expansion
We moved to bigger premises at Newport Bridge, Middlesbrough.
1980
Family Growth
Stanley’s eldest son, Howard joins the business.
1985
First in the North East
We brought the first Plasma Cutter to the North East of England.
1992
CNC Drill Installation
Our first CNC drill was installed.
2012
New Director
Howard’s son, Harvey becomes Managing Director.
2015
New Premises
Further expansion of premises, this time relocation to larger premises in South Bank, Middlesbrough.
2019
Laser Cutter
Installation of our brand new fibre laser cutting machine.
2020
70th Birthday
In 2020, we celebrated 70 years in business.
